Shaheen College is one of India’s leading educational institutions, established by philanthropist Dr Abdul Qadeer. Shaheen Group runs 60 plus branches of Intermediate Colleges across 13 States. The Shaheen Group of Institutions was founded in Bidar in the year 1989 to provide educational opportunities for the underprivileged people of the Bidar district, which is today spread across 14 States. The Institute, which began as a pioneering project in a one-room tenement that could fit 18 students, has grown into a significant center of academic excellence that affects the lives of more than 20000 students and more than 1,000 staff members are engaged in the creation of knowledge. Since 2017, Shaheen Bidar College is attaining 10% of Government MBBS seats in Karnataka and 0.8% of Government MBBS seats in India. Shaheen is one of the top institutes in Karnataka, which is known for offering excellent education to those students who aspire to become a doctor. Shaheen Group has also started *Academic Intensive Care Unit (AICU)’ to bring the Drop-outs and Madrasa students to mainstream have borne fruits. The project began in 2003 was aimed to help the school dropouts and Madrasa Students of age group 10-18 are made to appear in Class X and Class XII examinations along with NEET and other professional examinations. AICU has a composite curriculum from classes V-XII AICU Centers are established across India.
In the first phase of the project, a project coordinator will be recruited. One teacher will be responsible for imparting education to 6 students. Grouping of the students will be based on the learning levels of dropout children and the time during which they may attend classes. The “Academic Intensive Care Unit (AICU)” is an innovative concept of imparting high quality education to the dropout and probable dropout students between School Grades Class 1-12.Education on this concept is being conceived and delivered with specific approach to target stake holders by Shaheen Schools in Bidar-Karnataka. Their success rate is 100% since 15-years consistently. The exercise addresses the acute backwardness of the downtrodden by empowering them through quality education. The project coordinator will be responsible for strategy and promotion of the intervention. The teachers will conduct the on-ground tasks of direct engagement with children and communities.
